Gadigal man Gary Ward – better known locally as “Gaz” – commenced his job as the Pemulwuy Project’s Building Manager in December 2020.
As we near completion of our affordable housing, landscaping and civil works teams have been busy installing new roads, paving and gardens.

Our gym manager Alex Tui and Uncle Micky were on site at the new Elouera Tony Mundine Gym last week with a photographer. Alex uploaded a number of photos on social media afterwards and was happy to report that there was a great buzz and excitement among former gym members when they saw the bare bones of the new gym.
While the majority of the country has been working at home during the Covid-19 lockdown, the construction industry has been able to continue with a few adjustments to allow for safe environments for workers.
Construction commenced on the Aboriginal Housing Company’s (AHC) Pemulwuy Project in March. The AHC team was excited to see two large cranes erected on site in July. The workers put the cranes together like a giant meccano set, and carefully maneuvered the pieces into place.
The Aboriginal Housing Company was founded due to the lack of appropriate and affordable housing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The very first board meeting was held at the registered office at 57 Louis Street, Redfern on 25 July, 1973, the same day as the AHC’s Certificate of Incorporation of Public Company was issued by the Corporate Affairs Commission.
Sydney 26 March 2019: Today we were proud and honoured to hold our ‘Turning of the Soil’ Ceremony for the Pemulwuy Project, Redfern, to signify the commencement of construction on the land, formerly known as “The Block”. Located between Louis Street and the Railway Corridor opposite Redfern train station, the Pemulwuy Project will see the redevelopment of the land into three precincts.
